Waiting on the World to Change

       Orange flames encased the interior compound. Two men were trying to get as far away from the fire as possible. An oxygen rich biodome was always a bad idea. It seemed that the only survivors were Captain Daniels and Lieutenant Leeds.       This outpost had been created by shipping the trash from Earth creating a livable planet from the garbage. It was a lucrative enterprise for those on Earth and an unpleasant tour of duty for all those stationed at the outpost.      “Did you remember to run the compression program before we blew?” asked Captain Daniels.       “I was a little busy worrying about my imminent death” the  Lieutenant replied.       Captain Daniels sniffed “Well if things aren’t done correctly we end up with disasters like this one.”      The Lieutenant averted his gaze, focusing on the glow of the outpost, “Well, frankly I am against compression.”  ...
