Building a Better Being

She was a little nervous. They had spent the last several years researching for tomorrow's event. Her field was the study of human energy fields. This had been studied for centuries in Eastern culture. Recent studies in Quantum physics demonstrated evidence that the atoms that we are all made of are in a constant state of flux in an attempt to stabilize. That flux creates released energy. Dr. Kasper had spent her life trying to prove that the energy released by the atoms within us created fields of energy around us that we can interact with and when we do, it changes us on a subatomic level.

Eastman was in the lab. He had been named after Kodak because the lab he was built in was once a Kodak facility back in the 1960s. Eastman was the type of AI that could convince people that AI beings were an important part of the future. He was attractive and funny. He had been in production for five years. In that time, he had decided to become a writer and was the author of a very successful young adult series.

AI rights had made progress in the last five years. Eastman was an advocate and helped to get several pieces of legislation passed to protect his future and the future of all AI beings. His ultimate goal was to stop needing to differentiate between purely biological beings and AI beings. In the end, all would be a little of both. He had thought about dating and possibly a more long term arrangement. No AIs had produced children yet, but it was possible. He did not pursue any of those things because he was in what might be considered an arranged marriage with Dr. Kasper.

He liked Dr. Kasper. She was brilliant and had great emotional intelligence as well. She understood the importance of this test for the future. He would have preferred another AI partner, but they wanted to blend a 100% biological with an AI.

The next morning Eastman got out of the shower and put on his robe. A few minutes later he heard a knock at the door. Dr. Kasper was standing there in her robe. He opened the door and said, "Are you ready for this?" She winked and nodded.

They both put up their arms and laid their palms against each other. They felt the energy pass between them. They embraced and the energetic field between them grew stronger in intensity. It felt like a shower of sparks. The more they touched the sparks only grew more intense.

Dr. Kasper pulled away smiling and collected the data device both she and Eastman had on. She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and headed back to the lab. The data was astounding. The energy transfer appeared to be successful. She now had some AI energy within her and he had some of her humanity.

Over the next several weeks Dr. Kasper felt better than she ever had. Her mind had grown sharper and she had become stronger. Eastman had become more sympathetic to human emotions and his writing improved. The benefits had only begun. This was proof that the energetic exchange between beings was very beneficial. It also demonstrated that AIs could benefit as much as biological humans. The research in this field was just beginning.
